Maybe you are considering therapy in a time of crisis, wanting to make sense of what is happening in your life, or perhaps you want to explore and improve your relationships? Whatever you choose to bring to the work, my aim is to help you gain more control and mastery over your life. I believe that everyone deserves the chance to put the past where it belongs and free themselves to be the person they were born and want to be.

Using the Person Centred approach of Carl Rogers as a core model, I integrate other skills and techniques in response to my client and individual needs. It is the “working alliance” and “therapeutic relationship” provided by the Person Centred approach that provides the trusting contact for the individual to safely explore their strategies and decisions about life. It is always a privilege for me to be present whilst an individual pursues their process into becoming who they are. Being experienced as a therapist and an individual who has pursued her own personal healing process, I provide a warm and compassionate approach that embraces both the unacknowledged wonder of an individual as well as the darker aspects of their experience. Growth is about embracing life and does not always have to be angst ridden and fearful!

At the core of working with you I place great importance on working collaboratively and understanding your style. I’m always mindful that it is YOU who is the expert in your life – whether it is working in the here-and-now or examining and addressing past experiences and how they might affect you today

 About me

I am a qualified and experienced Integrative Counsellor. I trained with City of Bristol College to gain my Professional Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling and Certificate in Counselling Skills. I work from a person centered perspective. This means that I use a number of different types of counselling theories in my work, depending on the issues brought to counselling and most importantly what feels right for you. I work from my practice which is based in Wilder Street, Bristol.

As part of my training I also had undergo my own personal therapy. I know how difficult and challenging it can be to make the move from thinking about counselling to making the decision to look for a therapist, to finding the right one. I also know how beneficial making the decision to look for and get that support can be, both from the work undertaken and results with my own counselling clients and with my own personal therapy sessions.

I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and work in accordance with their Ethical Framework for Good Practice. I have regular supervision in accordance with the requirements of the BACP and undertake ongoing Continuing Professional Development.

First Contact

When you get in contact we can arrange a mutually convenient time to meet. Our first session is an opportunity to talk about how we can work together, to move towards making changes in your life. If we’re both happy to continue we’ll book in 6 sessions. During our 5th session we’ll review and you can decide whether to book more sessions.

Confidentiality

What you share with me in our work together will be treated as confidential. There are, however, a couple of exceptions which I’ll discuss with you during our first session.

How long will the therapy need to be?

Each session is 50 minutes and is normally at the same time and location each week. Counselling is usually most effective if it is a regular weekly commitment as the amount of contact can affect the progress of your therapy.

Typically short term work is 6-12 sessions. Longer term therapy may be 30+ sessions. Many clients come for around 15 sessions. However long we work together for, we will continue to review regularly.
